Throwback love songs

Sound Bites 2

Happy almost Valentine’s Day! Happy Galentine’s Day! I’m actually not doing anything for either day this year. Myself and everyone I know seem to be really busy lately. We hang out on other non-holidays, so it’s all good.

I’ve been thinking a lot about love lately. It’s everywhere, am I right? Particularly, I’ve been thinking about romantic love and how my ideas of what that means have changed over the years. Whether you’ve been in love or not, I’m sure you can say the same.

Disney movies, pop songs and the relationships of the people around us all can have an impact on our ideas of love. I started thinking about what my favorite love songs were as a child. Others I didn’t particularly love still influenced my ideas of the traits I wanted in a future boyfriend or how I thought a relationship should go. Most of them were completely silly and false, of course.

For instance, I no longer think “If you want to be my lover, you’ve got to get with my friends” or that my boyfriend has to be a “Sk8er boi.” Neither does my prince need to pull up in a white pick up truck as in white pickup truck like in a country song. I’m not anyone’s punk rock princess either. Man, I had some funny ideas as a kid.

In this playlist, you’ll find some 90s and 2000s Throwback love songs, from my childhood to high school. I made it into a Spotify playlist so you can listen to it below.

Wannabe – Spice Girls
This Kiss – Faith Hill
Follow Me – Uncle Kracker
Fallin’ – Alicia Keys
Sk8er Boi – Avril Lavine
Punk Rock Princess – Something Corporate
Somebody Like You – Keith Urban
Suds in the Bucket – Sara Evans
Crazy in Love – Beyonce, Jay Z
Stolen – Dashboard Confessional
Fearless – Taylor Swift
First Day of My Life – Bright Eyes
