One of my favorite things in summer is seeing free live in store performances and going to music festivals. Okay, I take that back I haven’t actually been to that many concerts or in stores or festivals, but I want to change that. It’s too bad I missed the Make Music Pasadena festival on Saturday, but I had fun at the Dodgers vs. White Sox game that night. (See my post about that here.) It seems like there are always music events happening in my area, around Los Angeles and Orange County, and now is no exception. For all the broke folks, there are some free shows coming up that look good.
Tomorrow is the First Day of Summer Celebration at Burger Records in Fullerton, California with a sale starting at 11 a.m. and in store performances by Summer Twins and Hindu Pirates starting at 9 p.m.
This morning when looking at Facebook I saw that Burger Records announced the show and I was really excited because I like the Summer Twins a lot. They sing pretty dreampop and rock and roll songs. I am hoping to go to the show although I might get there a little late. I have been wanting to see the Summer Twins for a few months now and haven’t made it out to a show yet.
This Saturday, June 23, there are two free music events, both in Pomona, that look intriguing. That may breed competition, but the events are close enough that you could theoretically go to both in one day.
The second Moon Block Party Pomona is set to run from 2 p.m. to midnight in the Downtown Pomona Arts Colony. It is a free all ages outdoor music and art festival. There will be an after party at Aladdin Jr. You can RSVP on Facebook here.
Machine Pomona is celebrating one year of independent art business and community with its Machine Pomona Re-Grand Opening starting at 2 p.m. There will be live art, performances and giveaways.
Of course there are also always live shows at Amoeba Hollywood and any extra time in summer is a nice time to see them. I love exploring LA and seeing a free performance of a good artist is always a plus. Malaysian singer songwriter Yuna will be visiting Amoeba on Tuesday, June 26 for a 7 p.m. live in store performance. I have only heard one of her songs so far, but she seems good. After hearing that one song, I immediately bought it and added it to the beach day playlist I made for The MixChange.
To all you people going to the Vans Warped Tour in Pomona this weekend, have fun. I won’t be going and will most likely be catching a free show with some of my best buddies instead.
